Let the colours speak … this is the philosophy exuding itself through
the artworks of Nicola Berner Dzwonkowsky.Nicola, born in Essen,
Germany, in 1966 has increasingly focused on the complex and often
ethereal theme of Mediterranean horizons as the starting point for
her paintings: the communication of mood, vast expanses and atmosphere.
From their earliest beginnings, her works have shown a powerful means
of communication. This is promoted through the use of her unconventional
technique - whether through the application of the oils with cotton-balls,
sponges, rollers or brushes. In concert with this she blends pure pigment
so the paintings realise their own unique character and structure.
Oil paint, as a malleable, living paint medium is not only the basis
of her seascapes, but also for her architectural compositions:
"Abstract sections with tremendous depth, monochrome surfaces and
complementary colour contrasts."
The artist is inspired through her love of the Meditarranean, the
region of Costa Daurada, Barcelona's Golden Coast, as well as her
many travels through the Provence.     (Melanie Haape)
